WEALDEN GUITAR SOCIETY - A brief history
Wealden Guitar Society was founded in 1978 by three local
guitar teachers, Marcia Burton, David Daniels and Raymond Love,
together with Maurice Faircloth, one of their students.
The aims were, and always have been, to further interest in
the classical guitar, mainly through the monthly meetings which have
been held in Tunbridge Wells since the society was formed. These
meetings provide members with the opportunity to meet other guitarists,
to play if they wish to, or simply to listen to the playing of other
members.
Over the years Wealden Guitar Society has played host to a
number of world class guitarists, including Carlos Bonell, Gary Ryan,
John Mills, the Katona Twins, Xuefei Yang and the Eden-Stell duo
(pictured below in that order). And, amongst other activities, the
society has presented talks on guitar construction and musical
composition and held classes in solo and ensemble playing.

The current format of the meetings tends to centre around a
theme such as music from South America, Romantic music, Early music etc
all of which gives a focus for members' practice between the meetings
and a sense of unity to the programme presented on the night.
